After a long day of meeting people and pretending to be enthused about pharmaceutical technology, all Patrick wanted to do was relax. He had just had the most excruciating day. Trying to explain the latest medical advancement to a room full of number crunchers was hard. He hoped he had made enough of an impression.
Patrick entered his small hotel room and tossed his briefcase on the bed. All he wanted was a hot bath and a warm bed. He loosened the knot in his tie and undid the top button of his shirt. Patrick detested wearing the monkey suit, but he knew it was a must. He took off his watch and tossed it on the nightstand. Out of the corner of his eye he could see the blinking red light. He hated that light. It meant his afternoon of relaxation was about to come to an end.
Begrudgingly, he dialed down to the reception desk to retrieve his message. It was from his boss, who wanted Patrick to call him right away. As he dialed the number to the office he tried to come up with an excuse to get out of whatever it was he wanted him to do. The last thing he needed was to spend dinner with clients. No, he would have to put his foot down and just say he wasn’t into it tonight.
Patrick sat down on the bed and waited for his boss to answer.
“Patrick. Where have you been I’ve been trying to get a hold of you all afternoon?”
Patrick rolled his eyes and started to give an explanation when he was cut off.
“Patrick, I don’t know what you did in that convention today, but we need to talk.”
His heart sank. He tried to think back through his day. He didn’t think he’d done anything bad. Actually, he thought he’d done a great job. A lot of the investors had come up to him afterwards to shake his hand and express their interest. That was part of the reason it had taken him so long getting back to the hotel.
“Patrick my phone has been ringing off the hook,” he paused. “Everyone wants to invest in our product.”
Patrick threw himself back on the bed. It was a huge relief.
“Congratulations man,” his boss said enthusiastically. “You’re going to get a big bonus out of this when you get back. Now take the night off you deserve it.”
Patrick thanked him profusely before hanging up. After the call, he was on such a high. He knew things had gone well, but he wasn’t expecting to hear results so soon. He thought about whom to call but realized he had no one. He was alone in a strange city with no one to help him celebrate. He was too wound up to just relax. He had a lot of energy to release, but the thought of going to some dingy club was not appealing.
He sat back on the bed and thought. What could I possibly do in a strange city where I know no one, he wondered. A sneaky smile came across his face. Did he dare? What if someone found out? He wondered. But that wouldn’t be possible; he was, after all, miles from home. Before he could think too much of it, he fetched his laptop out of his bag and did a quick search. Pages full of escort sites and chat rooms popped up. He browsed through a couple, but none had what
