He didn’t smile. “Government Issue, she wouldn’t dare throw it out.” He said flatly.

“I like the way you play. It’s nice.”

Ian shook his head.

“Good night isn’t it?”

“Yeah,” Reece agreed, “one of my favorite times of year.”

“I love the fall.” Ian thought, “I’m not sure you have one of those here, do you?”

“Sort of, it mainly gets chillier at night and we get more rain.”

“I’m not sure I’m gonna like the lack of real seasons.”

“You get used to it.”

There was quiet for a moment and Ian strummed his guitar a little more. Reece laid his head down on his arms and looked at Ian.

“Jesse thinks you’re fucking our parents. You’re not, are you?”

Ian smiled, “No.”

“I didn’t think so. Jesse’s just jealous. He’s got a crush on you, you know.”

“On me?”

“Don’t look so surprised.”

“He barely spoke to me all afternoon.”

“Yeah but he couldn’t take his eyes off you.”

“I didn’t notice.”

“I did. I notice a lot. People think I’m quiet and stupid, but I’m not, I just like to observe.”

“I noticed that about you.”

“I know Mom and Dad are worried about me, but I’ll be alright. I just don’t know how to tell them.”

“They’re not stupid either Reece, they’ll catch on.”

He nodded his head. “So do you like Jesse?”

“Jesse’s a little young for me.”

There were more words coming from Reece than there had been the whole afternoon. Ian sensed his need to talk, so he put down his guitar and slowly made his way down to the pool. “Mind if I get in, too?” He asked.

“Your pool.”

Ian smiled as he slipped over the side beside Reece, “I keep forgetting.” He pushed himself down to the bottom and then floated back to the top, coming up wet and cool right beside Reece.”

As Ian leaned his back against the pool wall, beside Reece, Reece asked him. “So do you like guys?”

“To be honest, Reece, I don’t know.”

He hadn’t changed his position, his head was still lying sideways on his arms. “That’s cool…you ever done it, with a guy?”

“Reece, I wonder if you should be having this conversation with your parents. It may be difficult, but they seem very open about sex and I’m sure they would…”

“Open?” Reece laughed and turned around and faced the same direction as Ian. “The first time I snuck a girl in my room to have sex, we were just about to cum when my mother burst in the door and said, “Oh I’m sorry, I though I heard mice.” Then without as much as the bat of an eye she said, “Reece, honey, arch your back a little more, you’ll get deeper penetration and stimulate her clitoris more. She’ll love that.”

“Oh shit” Ian laughed. “I’m sorry, I don’t mean to laugh.”

For the first time he saw Reece smile, “Its okay it’s pretty funny…now, and she was right. Despite everything, my mother is almost always right.”

 Did it again...
...every time I think that you've written the best that possibly could be, you go one better. Amazing. PS my nephew did 3 tours in Iraq - he turned 30 over there last spring. H e deploys to Afghanistan early next year. He talks to me sometimes - its a n honor that he feels that he can. Bless em' all...

Oh, keyboardman, you've got me hooked on your stories. Somehow you've mana ged to make the sex less important than the characters themselves, yet it r emains boiling beneath the scenes. Please don't stop this series! But if you do, I'm sure anything you write will be equally beautiful and fascinating. Thanks for bringing me into a life I was once familiar with (I lived in LA for 10 years). I must say, I wish I had never left. Hope to retire there.
