For Adam, Who Taught me to Fly and who is my Wings
I trusted
The All-American,
Fair-haired man,
Whose honest discourse,
Collegiate good looks,
And evergreen friendship,
Had long ago won me over.
With his effervescent smile and
Well heeled showmanship,
He beckoned me
To step off familiar ground,
Into the wind,
And fly.
Violating my overgrown
And root-covered
Foundation of fear,
I pointed my chin skyward,
And leaned, tentatively,
Into the void.
I watched his eyes
As I rolled, half-mooned, into space
And allowed him to bend me
At his will until
I found my balance,
And flew.
For the briefest of moments,
I traveled
The friendly skies
Of the Fly Boy.
I trusted him,
And for me,
My fears allayed,
