Mortal or Immortal – and they sat there, stunned, made speechless and left motionless by his incredible beauty and pungent sexuality. Even in his current state of decay, he was still that which no one would ever turn down, if the opportunity presented itself – and he was presenting himself, to one and all, for whatever might come – his present vulnerability was very nearly Mortal…
At that moment, as Vulcan caught my eye and jerked his head as if to say, “Get him out of here”, my eyes were dazzled by a blinding radiance, and the double doors of The Pantheon were thrown open. It was Apollo himself, in full godlike capacity as the Keeper of the Sun! He strode into the bar and went straight for Loki, who stood before him nearly naked – or, as naked as a god gets before Mere Mortals – they never reveal everything, nor even really much of anything, not to us…
Apollo, in all his glorious Radiance, stood before Loki, and said “Where the hell have you been? I’ve been looking all over for you!”
Loki snarled at him, “What for, you son-of-a-whore? You seemed to have plenty of other friends to take my place!”
Apollo yelled back, “Godsdammit, Loki, you idiot, you know that you’re the only one for me, and if I could just convince you of that we wouldn’t have these problems!”
Loki yelled back, just as loud and godlike, “Tell that to some dumb fucking Mere Mortal – maybe they’ll believe you!” And Loki took a swing at Apollo’s handsome cleft chin.
Loki was, however, on his third Ambrosia, and his feet were tangled in his leather shorts, and Apollo was apparently straight-up sober, so Apollo jerked his head back just far enough to avoid Loki’s swing and then caught Loki as the force of the swing unbalanced him. Apollo is bigger than Loki, several inches taller and broader in the shoulder, and overall more muscular – more of a gym rat than Loki, who has a more lean-and-mean rock-star physique. Apollo grabbed Loki, and pulled him close, and Loki struggled against him, their lean, taut bodies pressed hard against each other. Apollo prevailed this time, and held Loki firmly as Loki’s arms flailed helplessly against Apollo’s broad, muscular back, and Apollo hissed in Loki’s ear, “You stupid fuck, you’re drunk as a skunk, and filthy as a pig, and I still want you so much I can’t stand it – you do that to me, and you’re the only one in any of The Worlds who does, you dumb-ass whore!”
Loki was having none of it, and sank his teeth deep into Apollo’s shoulder.
“Ow! Damn!” yelped Apollo, and smacked Loki hard upside o’head. The combination of the blow from Apollo and the Ambrosia from Vulcan left my poor Loki momentarily senseless, and he collapsed in Apollo’s arms. Apollo looked at me – he knew my face from previous encounters here, which, again, is another story (or stories) for another time – and Apollo said, “Help me with him.”
Apollo was strong enough to handle Loki on his own, but movement in the crowded bar was awkward, and Vulcan was anxious for this particular show to be over as soon as possible – bad for business, y’know. He tossed me the key to one of the rooms he kept at the back, and said “Get him upstairs, quick – he’ll come ‘round soon enough.”
