I find that I usually deliberate over a title for a while, and then take the story from there. The title gives me my bearings, I suppose one could say.
This is probably a chicken or the egg type of question, but do you usually write the story and choose a title, or choose a title and then write the story from there, such as myself? _________________ "A man can be happy with any woman as long as he does not love her."

Usually the story comes first for me. I actually suck at titles. LOL Although...I've had a few titles that just stuck with me: Blessed Sacrament (the sequel to my novel The Legacy, which comes out this fall) and one just popped into my head the other day that might be a fallen angel story: Descent.

i write the story as soon as it comes to me or i'll lose it, so i don't usually bother with the title until i finish the story. i'm not very good at choosing titles anyway, hah. _________________ I hurt myself today...to see if I still feel.

I'm with everyone else, I do the story first. Seems like it would be harder to write when you start with the title. That's probably why your stories are so good, JetSet! _________________ "A man's errors are his portals of discovery."

I write the stories first, then the title. I don't think I could just come up with a title and make a story fit it. But I have never tried either. Besides, what I wrote is more like a pathetic diary.

The unique idea, twist, or hook comes first for me (I try not to write essentially the same story over and over--although sometimes I'll rewrite a story), then the story, with the title usually forming while the story is being written.

I have to say that for me the story comes first. Actually, the title is sometimes the hardest thing for me to come up with and I usually go through several before I settle on one.

Same for me. Sometimes it feels like I can spend all day debating over a title....the story ususally just flows.
I don't write all that often, but with what I have written I find it is either hard to come up with a title or it just seems to come to mind at the same time as the story. It is weird.
For me, it is the title first. I don't know why, but somehow a good title is usually the starting point for the story at least for me anyways. _________________ "A man's errors are his portals of discovery."

I'm exactly the same way. Usually, a good title comes to mind and then from there I extrapolate a clever sentence in which it fits. And the story builds from that. _________________ makes out like a bandit.
